Come Meet Me and See My Demo, "Tablescape Design with Flea Market Finds" / Roseville Sacramento Folsom Wedding Flowers Florist

Tomorrow, Saturday August 4, I will be giving a demo on how to create tablescapes using flea market finds.  I went shopping at Denio's market in Roseville last Sunday - it's a HUGE flea market in Roseville - and spent $50 on some wonderful things that I'll show you tomorrow!  Learn some of my secrets on how to make your vintage finds integrate with each other and look beautiful.  If you like vintage, I'm also offering a Denio's special to style YOUR vintage finds for your wedding. So come out, we'll be in the shade, and my demo will start at 11:05.  There is a great salsa contest (ala "Chopped") that sounds very exciting, and there will be lots of tasting opportunities in the Farmers Market, too.  Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, wear a hat (I hope you'll check out the flea market too!), stay hydrated, and bring your cart (or buy one at Denio's!) or wagon to bring home your wonderful finds!

What's Your Wedding Flower Style? DIY Wedding Flower Classes / Sacramento / Folsom / Placerville

DIY Wedding Flower Class, Wedding Bouquets, Sacramento Folsom Placerville Lake Tahoe

Are you wanting to DIY your wedding flowers?  Maybe thinking about a wedding flower business?  A Special Day Designs offers wedding flower classes for the beginner.  My student Joan created a lovely vintage style wedding bouquet of cream roses, pinky peach stock, white lisiathus, queen anne's lace, and pale peach carnations.  This was only her second class....but I think she's well on her way in learning floral design, and with her love of antiques, I see her vintage vibe here!  She even had a lovely cut crystal trumpet vase to display her bouquet in.

Joan's friend Wave decided to be daring and try a crescent-shape bouquet for her second bouquet.  I think she did a great job!  Quite lovely, and she really liked having more fern showing, maybe she will find she is a naturalistic designer, or maybe modern high-style.  I see the crescent shape, do you??

One thing about learning floral design is that it is an art, and you are the artist.  You have to find your artistic "voice".  My artistic voice, above, and below, tends to be modern - grouping of flowers (in fashion, it's called color blocking) and not "polka dotty."  I emphasized the dusty miller, and I like a naturalistic look - not a perfect moundy-roundy. What about you?

Sola / Tapioca / Balsa Wood Wedding Flowers / Truckee Lake Tahoe Sacramento Wedding Flowers Florist

Sola wood (aka balsa wood or tapioca wood) and cotton boll alternative wedding bouquet with metallic and icy details, and a custom etched copper bouquet charm
I had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth for a year on wedding flowers for her March 3, 2012 Truckee winter wedding.  She came to me with the vision of sola wood flowers (also known as tapioca wood or balsa wood flowers) and cotton bolls (because they reminded her of snow), with some metallic bling to reflect her winter wedding.  I took that idea farther, including pine cones embellished with crushed glass (like snow!) and as a nod to her Sierra wedding.  I hung a faceted glass (not acrylic!) crystal ball dangle that gives the idea of an icicle. Metallic touches included silver ting ting, gold skeleton leaves, a copperish rose element, and silver cord handle wrap (over rustic burlap). I finished off the bouquet with hand-shaped couture muslin leaves that were veined with silver and that I formed with antique french tools.  To finish off the metallic accents, I hand-etched and metalsmithed a copper bouquet charm with her initial.  This charm can be removed and worn as a necklace pendant, if she likes. I also included gorgeous, beautifully preserved cream sweetheart roses, as she wanted texture in her bouquet.

For her bridesmaid, I made a bouquet with sola wood flowers and simple muslin leaves and a burlap handle that complemented Elizabeth's bouquet. The bouts complemented both bouquets.

Elizabeth had two flower girls, and I made each a halo head wreath of sola wood flowers.  I included some bling, copper wire and copper ribbon, to match the theme.

The ceremony included a chuppah of birch poles and cloth.  I designed four pole dangles of sola wood flowers that included a faceted glass crystal ball dangle on each to catch the light as the chuppah was carried, and that matched Elizabeth's bouquet.

All of this was done  in advance of the wedding; Elizabeth and her fiancee picked up everything a few weeks before the wedding on their way home from a Lake Tahoe trip.  These are all items that can be done in advance, and in fact, can be mailed anywhere in the world!

Many thanks to Jessa Wilber for the photography.
